Teutonic Origins
Hail Internet Traveler!
News of the arrival..a great, noble trainer..on the horizon...the prophecy has been fulfilled and the oracle has revealed his name….
Sir Morgan of house McCurdy.
First of all I want to thank you for taking the time to visit the Teutonic Herald today and read my first post. The inaugural post on the Herald will be a short bio about my life and what led me to creating Teutonic Strength. I’ll emphasize the message of what inspired me to build this brand. I’ll reveal the direction I’d like this company, and eventual online community, to take going forward. But since we’re not there in the story, let’s begin with the foundation for my interest in health and fitness; sports.
Sports-
My journey into the fitness world began as many peoples’ would, muddy socks and orange slices at halftime. My father decided it best for my brother and I to start playing soccer at age 5. While I played many other sports recreationally throughout my youth (football, basketball, baseball, etc.); soccer was my favorite and I continued to play into my high school and adult years.
Obviously this experience with participation in sports fostered an interest in physical health early on in my life. I wanted to be fast and strong to improve my performance as a soccer player. This initial motivation developed into a desire to maintain my fitness as I age despite my lack of competitive activity. I attribute my experiences playing sports to my decision to study Exercise and Sports Science in college, and leading my life path toward a career in the fitness industry.
Post-Secondary Education-
After my sports career had faded into a myriad of intramural contests and men’s Sunday league matches, I began to develop an interest in both physical health and performance. While I wasn’t aiming to improve my own performance on the field, I was passionate about learning the methodologies that led others to improve theirs.
My 4 years at university gave me a foundational understanding of biomechanics and human anatomy. This set the stage to study more advanced topics such as exercise physiology and injury prevention. I rounded out my education with periphery courses on nutrition and coaching. Following graduation I had two paths to take: continue to graduate school or begin working as a trainer, or coach.
Professional Career-
Ultimately I decided to begin working as a personal trainer and strength and conditioning coach at the Multnomah Athletic Club. The past 3 years working at the club has provided me with a strategically unique set of experiences. I have been able to train clients in a personal capacity, as well as work with the many club sports programs the club hosts.
What I’ve learned during my time as a fitness professional is that nearly everyone on planet Earth has a desire to be fit and healthy. However, I never truly appreciated the knowledge and expertise I had developed for myself and my in-person clients. I feel it is my duty to share this knowledge not just to my clients and athletes, but to everyone who has a desire to learn and work toward their goals.
For the Future-
The Herald: I would like this Herald to be a place of education and discovery. I would like my community to learn and discover fitness concepts and topics right alongside me. As young as I am in my career, I have a responsibility to continue expanding my knowledge base. Therefore I will make it a priority to keep posts educational and relevant to the subject of improving physical health and sport performance. Please feel free to submit ideas for topics of interest to my DMs on social media or directly to my email: teutonicstrength@gmail.com.
Our community: I would like to build an online community with like minded individuals who are as interested in exercise and sports as I am. I don’t want paid subscribers or “fans” or “followers.” I simply would like to build an online space where curious minds can go to learn, or even share, new concepts and ideas within the fitness industry. I will think of a catchy nickname once it’s been established. Maybe I’ll host a vote on Instagram @teutonicstrength.
With that I’d like to thank you for reading the first ever post to the Teutonic Herald.
